Challenge: Automate management of mailing lists

Dexcom helped change the lives of those with diabetes by offering a continuous glucose monitoring system to replace old-fashioned finger sticking. Yet ironically, they were still building email lists and sending out marketing emails to their customers by hand. They hoped to replace this labor intensive work with an automated solution, but lacked the in-house expertise to develop it.
The challenge was increased because Dexcom’s internal technical resources are mostly Oracle based, yet their mail architecture was built around .Net. TaylorMade Software created an Oracle-based business rules engine in PL/SQL to make secured web service calls to Mail Chimp using the newly released Mandrill .NET web service API. With email now automated, Dexcom can respond much more flexibly and saves an estimated 80k annually in manual labor costs.
